Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about comparing TLD prices, expired domains, promo codes, and how we work.

Use our TLD price comparison tool on this page: search or filter by extension, then view registration, renewal, and transfer prices from multiple registrars. You can compare TLD prices side by side and sort by cheapest registration, renewal, or transfer to find the best domain extension prices for your budget.
Domain name pricing is the cost to register, renew, or transfer a domain. Domain pricing by extension means each TLD (e.g. .com, .io, .dev) has its own price—and the same extension can cost different amounts at different registrars. Our domain price checker shows domain extension prices and TLD cost per registrar so you can see how much a domain costs before you buy.
On this page you can filter and sort all TLDs by registration, renewal, or transfer price. Use the filters to narrow by TLD type or price range, and sort by “Cheapest registration” or “Cheapest renewal” to find the cheapest TLD and cheapest domain extensions across the registrars we track.
Our domain price checker lists TLD prices from many registrars in one place. Enter a domain name (e.g. example.com) to see availability and prices for that name across extensions, or browse the full list to compare TLD cost and domain extension prices. All prices are in USD and updated regularly.
TLD cost is the price you pay for a specific domain extension (e.g. .com, .net, .io). How much a domain costs depends on the extension and the registrar: registration (first year), renewal (each year after), and transfer prices all vary. Use our TLD price comparison and domain pricing by extension table above to see exact costs and answer “how much does a domain cost” for any extension.
Registrars sometimes offer promo codes that give a percentage or fixed discount on registration, renewal, or transfer. We list current promo codes on our Promo codes page. Copy the code and paste it at checkout on the registrar's website when you register or renew a domain. Each promo may apply to specific TLDs or all TLDs at that registrar.
No. You can search, filter, and compare TLD prices and view promo codes without signing in. Creating a free account lets you save preferences and use features we add for logged-in users.
We update our price data regularly so you can make informed decisions. Registration, renewal, and transfer prices can change at any time at the registrar—always confirm the final price on the registrar's site before purchasing.
Registration is the cost to buy a new domain for the first year. Renewal is the cost to keep the domain each year after that. Transfer is the cost to move your domain from one registrar to another. Some registrars offer lower first-year registration prices; compare renewal and transfer prices too for long-term value.
No. You can search and browse expired domains on TLD-List for free. We don't charge anything for listing or searching expired domains. When you find a domain you want, you register it through any registrar—we only provide the list; we don't sell domains or charge for access to the expired domains data.
No account is required to search and view most expired domains. For domains with Domain Authority (DA) greater than 10, you need to log in to view full details. This helps us manage demand and keep the service sustainable while still letting everyone browse the list.
Once a domain expires, it stops resolving (the website and email stop working) until it is renewed or re-registered. If the previous owner doesn't renew, the domain enters a grace and redemption period and may eventually become available for anyone to register. Our expired domains list shows domains that have dropped or are expiring so you can find ones that may become available.
An expired domain itself isn't inherently bad for SEO. If you register one that had a strong backlink profile or history, it can sometimes help—but you must use it for legitimate content and follow search engine guidelines. Spammy or manipulative use of expired domains can hurt SEO. Use our expired domains page to research metrics (e.g. DA, backlinks) and choose wisely.
When a domain expires, the registrar typically gives a grace period to renew. If it's not renewed, the domain may go through a redemption period (often at a higher fee) and then be released. After that, it can be listed in drop lists and become available for anyone to register. Our expired domains page helps you find such domains and check when they drop.
Yes. New 4-letter .com domains rarely become available through normal registration, but they do appear when domains expire and drop. You can search for 4-letter and other short domains on our Expired domains page—filter by length, TLD, and other criteria to find available or soon-to-drop domains.
It depends on your use case. .com is the most recognized and trusted globally, so it's often better for brands and businesses targeting a broad audience. .io is popular with tech and startup sites and can work well for apps and SaaS. For credibility and memorability, .com usually wins; for a tech-focused brand, .io can be a good choice. Compare prices for both on our TLD list.
Three-letter domains are scarce (only 17,576 combinations for .com) and most are already registered. Short domains are easy to remember and type, so demand is high. When they expire and drop, they often sell at premium prices or in auctions. You can search for short or 3-letter domains on our Expired domains page to see what's available or dropping.
.io is popular for tech companies, apps, and startups because it's short and has a tech association. It's often more expensive than .com at many registrars. Whether it's worth it depends on your brand and audience: if you're targeting developers or a global tech audience, .io can be a strong choice. Compare .io prices across registrars on our site.
Yes. .me is the country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Montenegro. It's also used globally as a personal or brand domain (e.g. “brand.me”) because “me” works well for personal sites and slogans. So .me is both a country TLD and a popular choice for non-Montenegro use. You can see .me prices and compare with other TLDs on our TLD list.
